  Upali still hated to study books but he went to school regularly, so his father didn’t blame him. The vacation started in cashew season. There was no cashew in trees because the children in the village pluck all cashews in the trees. But there was a land of cashew trees in the village which was owned by a rich man named Upasakappu. He did not allow children to pick cashews in his land. One day Upali and his friends planned how to pick cashews from his land. They have got a news about Upasakappu.   6 or 7 months after the exam they had a vacation. They did usual things. When they were enjoying the vacation they heard about a brave character named ‘Suranchiya’. Upali and his friends got to know that he was a man who was born in this village but then he was living in Colombo. He usually robs rich people’s houses and gave the valuable things such as gold wrist watches, very expensive knives to the poor people in his village. Before 7 years he came to this village but he was missing after 2 days. This time, he has come to this village again after 7 years.   Upali’s father did not come to take him away for the Sinhala New Year holiday. Upali didn’t like to live Mr. Darmasinghas house. But he had a little liking because Mr Dharmasingha’s son and daughter were being his friends.   About two weeks later, all his classmates except one made friends with him. That boy who is hanging up with him was quiet. Upali liked to go to school because of his new friends. But he didn’t like to study books yet. Their books were full of difficult words and very tiresome. But the principal was deadly serious all the time. The two sons of the principal became friends with Upali because they saw how much Upali liked to play out door.
